Im Wan­del der Stoffe – Tran­si­tional Mat­ters

Exhi­bi­tion of the out­comes of the exper­i­men­tal work­shop series on the design poten­tial of phys­i­cal processes.

The prop­er­ties of ephemeral sub­stances pro­vide new aes­thetic sen­sa­tions at any given moment, which are not iden­ti­cally repro­ducible. Be it fog, wind, water or heat – a com­plex sys­tem of vary­ing para­me­ters makes it impos­si­ble for the viewer to antic­i­pate the tran­si­tional moment, but allows them to per­ceive it as an impres­sion of chance instead. The exam­i­na­tion of the tran­si­tion of dif­fer­ent sub­stances and the analy­sis of the firm, solid rule­book, which pro­duces momen­tary and fluid con­di­tions of form, colour and struc­ture, has aimed at mak­ing use of the ever-chang­ing Gestalt of the sub­stances as a form of expres­sion on a multi-sen­sory level.

The work­shop took place at the Uni­ver­sity of Applied Sci­ences Düs­sel­dorf in the win­ter term 2018/2019, super­vised by Thomas Wirtz. The results were part of an exhi­bi­tion in coop­er­a­tion with Lara Bechauf-Nguyen, Miriam Hausner and Anne-Cathrine Mosbach (neospektiv Düs­sel­dorf) and Frédéric Wiegand.
